THE popularity of brunch has boomed over the past five years and Tasmania’s hospitality industry has responded.
Co owner of South Hobart’s Bear With Me cafe and restaurant Alicia Liu said “beautiful places” have been popping up across Tasmania to cater to the craze.

Mrs Liu believes the foundations of a top brunch spot are great coffee, quality food and having something for everyone from traditional dishes to something a little more “funky”.
Mrs Liu said a welcoming and relaxing space was also a key ingredient.
There are three distinctly designed areas inside Bear With Me – a relaxing lounge at the back with a view of kunanyi/Mt Wellington, a more formal dining area and a casual, cafe style coffee spot for a read or a chat with staff.
Mrs Liu said she was eager for the Mercury’s Best Brunch in Tassie competition to kick off on Monday, in which readers can nominated and vote for their favourite.
She said when it came to dishes, there would always be those who are after an old favourite like scrambled eggs with bacon, but more and more people are willing to try something different.
“I think the [brunch] community is definitely growing.
“It’s very different to going to a restaurant or a cafe.
“People want to be relaxed. You don’t have to suit up and sit down for three courses and a glass of wine.
“You can still be cool and funky and eat fancy in a relaxed way.”
To nominate your favourite brunch spot, shout it out in the comments of our 6pm Facebook post on Monday.
