Between October 12 2019 and October 11 2020, about 11,107 crimes have been committed in the Toowoomba police district.

According to Queensland Police Services data, 31 crime clusters were identified this year across the district based on the number of crimes committed in a given area.

The biggest cluster identified in the data was in the CBD, where 4200 crimes were committed.

1016 of those offences were described as “good order” offences, 899 were other theft offences, and 631 were drug offences.

The next largest cluster was identified in Harristown, where 1700 crimes have occurred in the last 12 months, including 373 other theft offences, 320 drug offences, and 184 traffic offences.

The next largest cluster was located in Centenary Heights.

Of the 1400 crimes committed in that location, 344 were other theft, 288 were drug offences, and 142 were unlawful entry.

The most offences occurred in December last year, with 1237 crimes committed.

The data suggests offences are most likely to occur on a Saturday evening between 10pm and 6am, with 1213 offences occurring at midnight.

Of all the crimes committed, the most popular offence was “other theft” which occurred 2481 times.

Toowoomba experienced a rapid drop in crime rates over the coronavirus lockdown period between March and April, with 678 offences occurring in April.

Crime numbers began steadily increasing again after that period.
