New Queensland Police Data has unveiled the shocking crime trends in Toowoomba, and compared crime rates in several other regional police districts.

In the one month period between September 7 and October 6, 605 offences were committed in the Toowoomba police district, compared to 909 in the Cairns police district between those time periods.

In the last month, four major crime clusters were identified in the Cairns QPS district, whereas six smaller clusters were located in Toowoomba.

In a cluster of 674 offences committed near the Cairns CBD, 142 of those were good order offences, which describe crimes such as public nuisance.

In a smaller cluster further north of 149 offences, the majority of those were drug offences.

In the Toowoomba police district, the largest cluster was found between the CBD and Rockville where 378 offences occurred.

Of those 378, most crimes committed were classed as “other theft (excluding unlawful entry)”.

A second cluster was located in South Toowoomba, and 25 of the 91 offences committed were also classed as “other theft”.

Toowoomba Police officers remembered

The two police districts, Cairns and Toowoomba, reflected significant differences when extricating when the common times crimes were committed.

The most offences committed in Toowoomba happened between 10pm to 6am on Sundays.

In Cairns, 62 offences were committed between 2pm and 10pm on Tuesday.
