RIDING a motorcycle with no number plates on a Toowoomba street has led to a series of charges that has left a 26-year-old man with a jail term.

An off-duty policeman had spotted the motorcycle with no number plates being ridden on Stenner St about 10.35am, July 17, last year and recognised the rider as Jade Corey Hohn.

Following the motorbike, the off-duty cop called police who arrived to speak with Hohn who initially claimed he had only been pushing the bike and not riding it, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

Noticing his hands shaking and his pupils appearing to narrow, police conducted a roadside drug test which proved positive for meth, police prosecutor Shelby Larcombe told the court.

Checks found Hohn had not held a driver’s licence for more than four years and the motorbike had been unregistered and uninsured for two months, she said.

A search of the jacket he had been wearing found an extendible baton, a syringe, and 2.7g of white substance which contained meth.

His solicitor Amber Acreman, of David Burns Lawyers, told the court her client had entered into drug rehabilitation but he had relapsed during a time of stress.

Noting Hohn’s criminal history, Acting Magistrate Lisa O’Neill sentenced him to four months in jail but ordered he be released on immediate parole, fined him $900 and disqualified him from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for a total nine months.
