A GROUP of teenagers had stolen a car in Ipswich and driven to Toowoomba with the intention of obtaining glue for chroming, the city’s Children’s Court has heard.

The three teens, a girl aged 15 and two boys aged 13 and 14, had stolen keys to a Hyundai 130 parked outside a Goodna home at the weekend and drove towards Toowoomba, police prosecutor Rohan Brewster-Webb told the court.

However, about 3pm on Sunday, police had been called to a report of three teens with a broken-down car on Flagstone Creek Rd and arrived to find the trio.

The car had a blown out front tyre and the three were trying to change the tyre, Mr Brewster-Webb said.

The car had extensive damage and had been driven for a time on the rims, he said.

The girl told police she had been a passenger in the car which had struck a bridge, blowing out the tyre.

She said the trio had been heading to Toowoomba to obtain glue to sniff, Mr Brewster-Webb said.

The 15-year-old girl pleaded guilty to her role in the offending, her solicitor Joe Millican telling the court his client had not gone into the home when the keys were stolen and she had not driven the stolen vehicle.

Mr Millican described his client as “an occasional chromer”.

After spending the night in custody, his client was anxious to get home to her mother in Ipswich, he said.

Acting Magistrate Roger Stark placed the girl on a court diversion referral.

The 14-year-old boy was refused bail and remanded in custody to appear in the Ipswich Children’s Court for mention on February 2.

The 13-year-old boy was dealt with under the Juvenile Justice provisions.
