A MOTHER of three who tried to smuggle drugs and naked photos of herself into a prison by hiding them in her vagina was handed an 18 month prison sentence.
According to sentencing remarks recently published online, Kelly-Ann May Sinclair pleaded guilty in the Toowoomba District Court on July 29 to one count of supplying a dangerous drug with a circumstance of aggravation and one summary count of taking or attempting to take a prohibited thing into a Corrective Services facility.
The court heard the 35-year-old tried to smuggle Subutex, a drug used to treat opioid dependence, into the Woodford Correctional Centre.
But the attempt was foiled because an intelligence analyst “knew you were going to bring drugs in”, Judge Paul Smith said.
Sinclair was detained upon her arrival and searched, whereupon a package was found in her vagina, the court heard.
“You made admissions that there were “subbies”, Subutex, in there. You claimed it was for your own use, but that is not accepted,” Mr Smith said.
“You brought the drugs to the correctional centre to supply them to the prisoner.”
The court also heard the six cut-down syringes in the package were wrapped in naked photos of Sinclair.
In sentencing Sinclair, Judge Smith acknowledged her post-traumatic stress disorder, her 15-year drug addiction, and her mental health issues.
On the count of supplying a dangerous drug, Sinclair was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment, suspended immediately on account of her spending 140 days in pre-sentence custody.
On the summary count, Sinclair was placed on a two year probation order, with the requirement she not use drugs and will submit to drug testing at the cost of the State.
“Ms Sinclair, I hope you take on board what has happened today and we do not see you again,” Mr Smith said.
