DRIVING a male acquaintance home because he made her feel uncomfortable didn’t preclude a 22-year-old Toowoomba woman from receiving a fine and licence disqualification for driving.
A police patrol had done a registration check on a car being driven on Stephen St, Toowoomba, about 10.40pm, December 1, and found the car’s driver to be unlicensed, the city’s Magistrates Court heard.
Pulled over, Jodie Anne Thompson told police she was unlicensed and police checks found his driver’s licence had been disqualified by the court, police prosecutor Rohan Brewster-Webb told the court.
Thompson pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified by court order.
Her solicitor Michael Corbin told the court the reason his client had been driving was that she was returning a male friend to his home as she had felt uncomfortable with having him at her home at the time.
However, that did not present his client with a defence in law to her driving, he said.
Acting Magistrate Lisa O’Neill noted the 22-year-old had a bad traffic history.
“For someone so young she has a pretty woeful traffic history,” Ms O’Neill told Mr Corbin.
“I hope this has been a wakeup call for you,” she told Thompson.
Thompson was fined $650 and disqualified from holding or obtaining a driver’s licence for the mandatory minimum period of two years.
