FORMER champion Toowoomba boxer Damien Hooper will spend this weekend sitting in a cell of the Toowoomba police station watch house after being arrested on Friday.
The 28-year-old had been released from jail after serving a sentence just last week but had been arrested by police on a burglary charge on Friday.
Police claim he had small amounts of cannabis and methamphetamine on him when he was arrested.
He was charged with burglary, obstructing police and two counts of possessing a dangerous drug.
He was not required to enter any pleas to the charges and remained in the watch house when his matters were mentioned before the Saturday morning sittings of Toowoomba Magistrates Court.
Duty solicitor Sarah-Jane MacDonald, of MacDonald Law, told the court she did not require her client to be in court as there would be no application for bail at this stage.
Ms MacDonald said her client was on parole but the Parole Board had not yet considered her client’s status on whether that parole would be suspended and the 28-year-old be returned to custody.
She asked that her client’s matters be adjourned to Monday.
Magistrate Graham Lee therefore remanded Hooper in custody and adjourned his matters for mention back in the same court on Monday.
