Woman charged for letting boy drive van full of kids to the shops

Police were called to a busy Darling Downs shopping centre after reports of a 15-year-old boy driving a van loaded with kids and at least one adult. He topped it off by parking in a disabled bay.

A 37-year-old woman has been charge for letting a 15-year-old boy drive her to the shops.

A MERINGANDAN West woman will face the Magistrate after she let a 15-year-old boy drive her and some children to the shops.

Highfields Senior Sergeant Stephen Gillinder said a member of the public phoned police after they saw the boy driving a Toyota HiAce van containing several passengers at the Highfields Village Shopping Centre on April 30.

Police located the van parked illegally in the Disability parking bay.

They charged the 37-year old with permitting another to drive while unlicensed and fined her $666 for parking in disabled parking zone and driving a defective vehicle.

She will front the Toowoomba Magistrates Court later this month.

The boy was dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

In unrelated matters, police executed a search warrant at Greenway Court address in Highfields later that day, where they located a cannabis plant, a quantity of dried cannabis and drug utensils.

Police charged a 64-year-old Highfields man with producing dangerous drugs, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing utensils to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court in May.

An 18-year-old man was charged with possessing dangerous drugs and utensils and accepted drug diversion.

In an unrelated matter, police intercepted a 17-year-old Toowoomba boy driving a Holden Commodore while drug-affected on the New England Highway, on April 28.

He was charged with drugged driving and will appear in the Toowoomba Children’s Court.
