A young Darling Downs woman was told “not to blow” a chance to get her life back on track after she received a slap on the wrist for a raft of different crimes.

Eighteen-year-old Toowoomba woman, Teleah Madison Leggatt, fronted Toowoomba Magistrate Court on August 15, where she pleaded guilty to 10 charges including assault, trespass, wilful damage, and drug possession.

Police prosecutor Chris Willson said the first in-time offence occurred at the end of 2023 at the Kangaroo Point River Terrace Park, where Leggatt was found with 68.7g of cannabis in her car.

The court was told she was with others and officers could smell the cannabis from outside.

Leggatt told the officers she had travelled to Brisbane from Oakey for a gig.

Senior Constable Willson said the following offence was the assault, which took place on February 20, 2024.

The court was told a years long feud between Leggatt’s cousin and neighbour had boiled over after a verbal argument that started when the elderly victim returned home from volunteer work.

Senior Constable Willson said Leggatt entered the person’s yard and walked up their front steps, before yelling in their face, pointing at their chest, grabbing them by the forearms, and pushing them into a railing.

The court was told she left, however returned and pulled off the victim’s fence paling.

The incident was sparked after Leggatt believed the neighbour had taken photos and acted inappropriately.

Senior Constable Willson said Leggatt was squatting at an unoccupied rental with a man in Toowoomba in April.

When police arrived at the Station St address, they found cannabis and drug implements.

The court was told the now working mother, who had a very minor criminal history, was squatting with the man because her mother didn’t approve of the relationship or drug use.

Magistrate Michelle Dooley told Leggatt her behaviour would not be tolerated and to stop and think before acting, however she would give her one last chance of no conviction being recorded.

“Don’t blow this chance,” she said.

She noted Leggatt was back living with her supportive mother, got her first job, and told the mother to keep on the right path and to concentrate on her child.

Leggatt was placed on a six-month rehabilitation probation order and fined $100.
