Man, young girl injured in single vehicle rollover at Oakey

A blue utility driven by a man with a young girl as his passenger was seen swerving in and out of traffic moments before it rolled, throwing wreckage across the highway.

Police are investigating a single-vehicle crash involving a 1992 Toyota HiLux on the Warrego Highway west of Oakey about 9.20pm on August 15, 2024.

Police are waiting to speak to a man after a replica firearm and ammunition were found at the scene of a crash on the Warrego Highway at Oakey.

It is understood a 1992 Toyota HiLux utility was seen swerving in and out of traffic on the highway shortly before 9.20pm on Thursday.

A pistol an ammunition were found at the scene.

Witnesses say the driver lost control while overtaking another vehicle and rolled several times.

Emergency services were called to the incident and located the 31-year-old man and a four-year-old girl.

Both were lucky to escape with only minor injuries.

Police have confirmed it was a fake gun.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman declined to comment on the specifics of the investigation, other than to say that police are investigating.

The 31-year-old man and 4-year-old girl are reported to have suffered only minor injuries.
