Toowoomba resident Jonah Redfern, who caught the footage, was driving to Tafe along the bypass at 7.42am when he saw multiple police cars approaching in his rearview mirror.

“I thought it was a heavy load or something and then this little truck starts overtaking me slowly and all these cop cars follow,” he said.

Mr Redfern said with four police vehicles in pursuit of the truck along the highway the stolen car reached a speed of about 120km/h.

The single-cab flat bed truck then took the Mort Street exit off the bypass before it collided with another vehicle which brought the police pursuit to a temporary stop.

“He got off onto the Mort St exit and that’s when he hit the guy and the cops boxed him in,” he said.

“The police smashed his windows and he just drove away and the cops ran back to their cars to follow.”

Mr Redfern said two of the four police vehicles continued the pursuit while other officers checked on the man inside the vehicle that had been hit.

Police said the stolen vehicle came to a stop on Harth Street, where the offender continued on foot.

Officers arrested the man a short time later on Priest Street and he remains in custody.
