A Toowoomba religious figure charged with child sex matters has had his case adjourned because of Covid.

Crown prosecutor Shontelle Petrie presented a seven-count indictment against the man in Toowoomba District Court on Monday.

The charges include rape, indecent treatment of a child under 16, possession of child exploitation material and making child exploitation material.

No details of the allegations have as yet been aired in court and the accused has not been required to enter pleas.

It is believed the man resigned from his church position in Toowoomba after being charged in 2021.

His solicitor Yazdhan Sameer, of Aden Lawyers, told the court a barrister had been engaged to represent the accused man, but his client had Covid-19 at the moment and asked for an adjournment.

Judge Jennifer Rosengren said she wanted to know where the case was going and so adjourned proceedings for mention back in the same court next Monday, July 18.

The accused has been remanded on bail.
