A 26-year-old Toowoomba man with a history of drug offences has assured a District Court judge that he’s done with offending and won’t “screw up” again.

“I’m confident I’m not going to screw up, I’m done, look at my mum,” Jodean James Riley told Judge Katherine McGuinness while pointing to his mother who was crying in the back of the court.

Riley pleaded guilty to supplying meth five times to another man over a 24-hour period on October 11, 2018.

Police linked him to the supplies when they arrested the “customer” who had Facebook messages of the transactions on his phone in April last year, Crown prosecutor Ellen Fletcher told the court.

Police had not been able to find Riley until he was back in custody in November last year when he was spoken to and charged with the 2018 offences.

Ms Fletcher said Riley had amassed a seven page criminal history and was serving out a previous jail term which was due to end on July 8.

Riley’s barrister Nathan Turner said his client intended to live with his partner, who did not use drugs and was a positive influence on him, on the Sunshine Coast upon his release from custody.

His client had a job lined up as a roofer, he said.

Judge McGinness took into account Riley had spent six months in pre-sentence custody and sentenced him to 12 months in jail with a parole release date of June 5.
