A 26-year-old Toowoomba man who gained notoriety for being a Covid-19 quarantine jumper has appeared in the city’s Magistrates Court on a charge arising from an alleged stabbing at the weekend.
Aaron Sydney Green appeared by video from the Toowoomba watch house when his charge of unlawful wounding was read out in court.
His solicitor Chelsea Saldumbide, of McConnell and Saldumbide Criminal Lawyers, told the court she would not be applying for bail on her client’s behalf at this stage and asked for a four-week adjournment.
Ms Saldumbide said it was hoped to take the matter by way of “ex officio” indictment, meaning the case would be taken straight up to the District Court.
Police accuse Green of stabbing a man at a Bridge St service station about 10am Saturday.
It is believed the two men were known to each other and the other 26-year-old man was taken to hospital with a non-life threatening wound.
Green handed himself into police on Monday.
Green was not required to enter any plea to the charge and was heard to say “Love ya” to family members who were sitting in the public gallery.
There being no application for bail, Magistrate Howard Osborne remanded Green in custody and adjourned the case for committal mention back in the same court on August 31.
Green was fined $1500 last August when he absconded from a quarantine motel in Toowoomba.
He turned himself in after 48 hours outside quarantine.
