A Toowoomba man on parole for domestic violence offences was remanded in custody after police raided a Rockville home uncovering thousands of dollars worth of meth.

Kyle Matthew Parkinson successfully applied for bail before the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday, October 16, despite police objecting to his release.

However, if and when the 38-year-old is released from custody was dependent on the parole board.

Parkinson was charged with possessing a large amount of meth alongside Jenna McBurney following a recent raid at Rockville.

The court heard Parkinson had been living with his parents for the past 10 or so years and had been visiting the Rockville home for “personal reasons”.

Solicitor Sean Gallagher told the court Parkinson admitted to owning 1g of meth and drug utensils, however the 25g of meth in the Mimco pouch was highly contested noting it was located in a bathroom cupboard.

The average street value of 28 grams of crystal methamphetamine was $14,000 however depending on the quality it could be $20,000, according to the Crime and Corruption Commission’s 2014 Drug Commodities Guide.

The court heard Ms McBurney was also charged with possessing GBH, cash suspected to be the proceeds of crime, possessing ammunition unlawfully, possessing a tick sheet, and other drug-related offences.

Magistrate Kyna Morice said an important factor in her decision to grant bail was that police had not put forward any evidence to suggest Parkinson was a resident of the targeted address.

Mrs Morice said she was satisfied any risk of reoffending could be mitigated and based on Parkinson’s criminal history he did not appear to be a flight risk.

A part of Parkinson’s bail conditions is that he is not to contact Ms McBurney.

The case will be next before the courts on November 6, 2024.

The Wilsonton Heights man’s parole release date for his domestic violence crimes ends in early 2025.

His release remains in the hands of Queensland’s parole board.
