Toowoomba emergency call-outs: Crashes, horror fire fall, gang bashing, arson

Emergency services were called to a number of incidents this weekend, including a teen seriously burnt after falling into a fire, a young girl who was rushed to hospital following a car and roo crash, and much more.

Darling Downs police and emergency services were called to a number of incidents on the weekend which resulted in a number of young people being rushed to hospital.

On Saturday night at Westbrook, a teenage girl was rushed to hospital at 7.16pm after the car she was travelling in crashed into a kangaroo.

A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said paramedics attended the scene on Anzac Ave and performed first aid, before transporting the girl to hospital in a stable condition.

Minutes after the crash, another paramedic crew mobilised after reports that a boy fell into a fire east of Toowoomba, at Rosewood on the cusp of the Lockyer Valley.

The QAS spokeswoman said the teenage boy was at a private property when he fell into the fire, burning his back, arms, and legs.

He was transported to Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a stable condition at 7.39pm.

Earlier on Saturday, Toowoomba police received reports from Grand Central Shopping Center, that a group of teenagers violently attacked a 14-year-old girl and security guard.

The violent incident occurred before 11am at the shopping hub near the Toymate and Just Jeans stores, on August 19.

On Friday night at Harristown, the QAS spokeswoman said paramedics came across a single vehicle crash at 7.52pm.

She said the car had crashed at the intersection of Stenner and West Streets.

“A female in her teens was transported stable to Toowoomba Hospital,” she said.

On the Western Downs, two men were charged with alleged arson following an extensive police investigation into a number of fires at Tara and Wiembilla.

A 23 and 48-year-old Wieambilla man were both charged with nine counts of setting fire to vegetation and one count of arson.

Police allege that between January 29 and 30 about seven fires were deliberately lit which resulted in the loss of homes.

The men are remanded in custody and set to appear at Dalby Magistrates Court on Monday, August 21.
