A wild brawl between two teenage girls in the centre of Toowoomba has been caught on video.
In an incident that has been condemned by police, the video shows the two teenagers fighting outside the New York Slice pizza shop on Margaret Street in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The video shows each woman holding the other by the hair before one is flung to the ground and the pair begin wrestling.
Police and onlookers are then shown intervening to break up the women, in an exchange that lasted about 30 seconds.
One onlooker described the scene as “brutal”.
“We were just sitting there, eating pizza and chips before we grabbed an Uber, and these two girls just went at it — they literally barrelled into us,” she said.
“It was pretty shocking — there was a sickening thud when the girl was thrown to the ground.
“And the girl in the black had (the other) by the hair and was slamming her knee into her face, it was really brutal.”
Toowoomba Police Sergeant Greg Jurd said police attended the scene about 3.20am, taking both women to the watch-house.
They were released a few hours later, having been issued with infringement notices for public nuisance, relating to disorderly behaviour.
Sgt Jurd said violent behaviour was one the main reasons police were so present within the Toowoomba safe night precinct.
“This behaviour will continue to be frowned upon and we will arrest you,” he said.
It caps off a busy week for police, who have dealt with a number of serious offences across Toowoomba.
