A Toowoomba couple have been left shaken and fearing for their safety after they were the victim of a terrifying road rage incident on Boxing Day, when a man smashed their car window with bolt cutters.
The pair, who have declined to be named for fear of reprisal, say police are trying to track down the perpetrator of the incident at the intersection of James and West streets in Harristown about 10.30am.
The male victim, who was the driver, said he overtook the car the man was in just before the incident occurred.
“Some bloke was doing 50 in a 60 zone, so I overtook the car and he didn’t agree with that,” the man said.
“He came to the car to start off (while at the intersection), looked at me, saw I locked the car and windows and (he then) pulled a pair of bolt cutters from his car.”
The man said the perpetrator proceeded to smash his driver side window with the cutters before hopping back in his Hyundai i30 and driving off.
“His eyes were bloodshot, his pupils were huge, he would’ve been a younger fella in his mid 20s,” he said.
“I tried to get out of the lane I was in when I saw him walking up and I parked in front of them to stop them driving off (after it happened).
“I looked at my missus to check she was all right, there was glass all through the car.
“100 per cent (this was road rage), he was fuming.”
The man reported the incident to the police, who were checking to see if there was CCTV footage of it.
He said the incident had shaken his confidence in Toowoomba as a safe city.
“I was born here, I’ve only just moved back but it’s just been crime after crime – I don’t want to live here anymore if it’s like that,” the victim said.
Queensland Police confirmed a complaint had been made and officers were investigating the incident.
Anyone with footage or who witnessed the incident should ring Police Link on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
