A Toowoomba car thief on remand for an alleged violent robbery, has been sentenced in court for breaking into a Toowoomba home, stealing a car, and possessing drug utensils inside his buttocks.

The Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard when William John Maximos Doidge was arrested on April 11, police located a number of illegal items hidden on, and inside the young man’s body.

Police prosecutor Kinsley Weir said when Maximos was searched by officers, a knife was found hidden in his waistband, and garden gloves had been rolled up and stashed in his underwear.

“He stated he always carries gloves down his pants in case he ever needs them,” she said.

“(Later) while in his holding cell, he removed a needle and syringe from his buttocks and attempted to flush these items down the toilet,” she said.

Prosecutor Weir said when the 20-year-old was arrested later that month he again had a needle stashed inside his bum which fell out during his arrest – however on that occasion the needle was shortened.

“He was searched and an item has fallen from his buttocks and this was a cut-down syringe,” she said.

“Located with that… were three subutex strips, (a narcotic), wrapped in cling film.”

Before that arrest, prosecutor Weir said Doidge attended a Glenvale address on April 28 in a stolen car, where he attempted to rummage through cars, stole licence plates, and entered the victim’s home.

The incident was caught on CCTV, and a co-offender was present.

The court heard Doidge struggled with a drug addiction and had a significant criminal history for someone so young, which included several unlawful use of motor vehicle charges.

Doidge pleaded guilty to failing to dispose of a needle and syringe, possessing something used to break into homes, entering a dwelling with intent, unlawful use of a stolen car, possessing a knife in public, possessing drugs, and stealing.

Magistrate Clare Kelly sentenced Doidge to a six month jail term and declared 60 days of pre-sentence custody as time served.

She noted she did not declare all of the time he spent behind bars, 213 days, as the remaining balance would be considered when he was sentenced before the Toowoomba District for outstanding charges in 2024.

Doidge is yet to be indicted on the robbery while armed in company charge and remains in custody.
