Toni Patrice Cousins remains in hospital as drugs, weapons charges put before Toowoomba Magistrates Court

A 43-year-old woman was allegedly found with drugs and a weapon after her car crashed on a Rangeville street. Here’s what happened next.

A 43-year-old woman allegedly found with drugs and a weapon after her car crashed into a tree in Rangeville remains in hospital under police guard.

Toni Patrice Cousins was not required to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Thursday when her matters were briefly mentioned.

Her solicitor Callum Wood, of McConnell and Saldumbide Lawyers, told the court he would not be able to speak with his client who was in hospital on Thursday.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Chris Willson confirmed to the court that Ms Cousins was in hospital under police guard.

Magistrate Kay Philipson therefore adjourned Ms Cousins’ matters over to Friday for mention in the same court.

Police suspect Ms Cousins, who reportedly normally resides in Runcorn in Brisbane, may have been under the influence when the Hyundai she was in crashed into a tree on Alderley St about noon on Wednesday, November 15.

A police search of the car allegedly uncovered a large quantity of prescription drugs as well as a pistol and assorted drug paraphernalia.

Police also gathered a number of bags of evidence from the scene.

Ms Cousins has since been charged with seven counts of possess S4 or S8 medicines or hazardous poisons, and one each of authority required to possess explosives, possess property suspected of having been used in connection with the commission of a drug offence, possess utensils or pipes, possess dangerous drugs schedule 2 in quantity of or exceeding schedule 3, possessing property suspected of being the proceeds of an offence under drugs misuse act, unlawful possession of weapons category D/H/R – shortened firearm in public, and receiving tainted property.

She has not as yet been required to enter any pleas to the charges.
