A BOY, 16, is in custody after he allegedly mugged a woman at Clifford Garden Shopping Centre.

The initial police report said the 65-year-old victim had just withdrawn money from an ATM about 4pm on Wednesday when the boy allegedly rushed in and grabbed her purse.

She put up a fight but was pushed to the ground by the alleged thief.

The report stated that the boy fled but was stopped by shoppers a short distance from the scene. They detained the boy until police arrived.

He has been held in custody and was wanted for a range of offences, including recent burglaries and car thefts in the Toowoomba area.

Anyone with information about the offence is urged to phone Policelink on 131 444.

The incident comes after two girls, aged 16 and 14, were charged with assaulting and carjacking a 76-year-old woman at the centre about two weeks ago.

The girls were arrested after an extensive police search and both charged with assault, robbery and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

They admitted to the offences and agreed to participate in a restorative justice process under the Youth Justice Act.
