A Toowoomba TikToker who has been fighting to abolish the prison system fronted a court for using social media to harass and menace a teenage boy who allegedly threatened to rape her child.

A Toowoomba court was told Lisa Ann Martin was on her way to drop her teenage girls off at a Toowoomba school on February 6, when she spotted the young man.

Police prosecutor sergeant Natalie Bugden said the mother veered off the road and parked across the footpath in front of the teenager before an argument ensued between the pair.

“(They) began yelling and threatening to bash each other, abusing each other for several minutes over an event that occurred in 2022,” Sergeant Bugden said.

Sergeant Bugden said Martin then made a TikTok video where she said she abused the boy, and “if he kept up his energy there would be massive repercussions, more than what the police could even handle”.

The court was told Martin also created a Snapchat where she threatened to kill him, which ended up being sent to the victim through a mutual acquaintance.

After pleading guilty to using her phone to harass and menace, Martin told magistrate Kay Ryan she felt like she had no other choice but to confront the boy after her complaints to his mother, and the school, fell on deaf ears.

“This was my last avenue to get this kid to see sense, that he cannot go to my daughter and ask her for a, pardon my French, ‘BJ’, or tell her that he is going to rape her in the toilet block,” she said.

“I just wanted him to wake up to himself.

“Normally I would smack someone, but I used my words (instead).

“He turned around and told me he was going to send 20 guys around to my house, so I went home, made a cup of tea, and did a (calm) TikTok video.”

Martin said she had been clean from methamphetamine for seven years and was determined to use social media to keep youth clean and out of prison through rehabilitation and support.

The local mum told the court juvenile detention centres needed to be shut down as they just served as “family reunions” where kids had access to drugs.

Martin said her followers had re-educated her “real quick” about her overstepping, and told her: “Aunty practice what you preach”.

Ms Ryan said she would structure Martin’s sentence in a way that would not affect her Blue Card, and ordered Martin to a six-month good behaviour order with a $500 recognisance hanging over her head.

After being sentenced, Martin asked the acting magistrate if she could make a TikTok about her because she was a “cool judge”.

After chuckling at the proposition, Ms Ryan told Martin to be good.
