An unemployed Toowoomba man snapped and threatened to burn a man alive over an alleged drug debt.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Alastair Windsor said Nathaniel White sent a threatening text message to a man known to him at 6.34pm on Friday, December 10.

The text message read, you “better pay up or I’m coming to destroy your little family lol”.

“(You) should not fu-k with me.

“That house owes me $600 for weed and I will get it, or I will burn you alive.”

Senior Constable Windsor said after the Coombooya man received the text message he was so frightened that he went straight to the Toowoomba police station.

The court heard, 21 days after the threat was made, police spoke to White and he admitted to sending the threatening text message.

The 33-year-old represented himself at court, and said he was unemployed and had been living with his parents since losing his job about three months ago.

Magistrate Louise Shephard told White it was a very concerning threat to make even if it was hollow and made in anger.

At the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Thursday, February 2, White pleaded guilty to using a phone to menace, harass, or cause fear, and was fined $700.
