Semi-trailer stuck under North St rail bridge in Toowoomba
Queensland Rail staff are working to remove the vehicle and assess what damage the bridge has sustained.
North St between Davidson St and Larcombe St is closed to traffic after a truck driver wedged his semi-trailer under the rail bridge.
Emergency services were called to the incident about 9.30am on Thursday, but no one was injured.
A Queensland Rail spokeswoman said rail staff were working to remove the vehicle and assess any damage to the bridge.
Several trucks have become stuck under the North St bridge in recent years, including a Woolworths truck and an Elders vehicle.
The Queensland Rail spokeswoman said drivers who do not pay attention to height restrictions risked fines and may be compelled to pay for repairs.
“Strikes to rail bridges and protection beams not only cause delays to our customers but are potentially very dangerous to the driver and other road users, as well as impacting road traffic,” she said.
“Our message is simple – know the height and load of your vehicle and plan your journey so you don’t get your truck or load stuck.”
“Motorists face fines of $1,335 and four demerit points for damaging rail infrastructure and if the matter goes to court, the maximum penalty is $13,352.”
“Queensland Rail actively pursues individuals to recover costs.”
Rail bridge strikes should immediately be reported to Queensland Rail using the telephone number on the identification plate fixed to the bridge or by calling Emergency Network Control on 1800 079 303.
