A 23-year-old man who caused a commotion during a drunken tirade at the Red Hot Summer Tour concert in Queens Park will have a four-month jail term hanging over his head for the next 12 months.
Joshua Brock Connor was drunk and carrying a bottle of Jim Beam bourbon when he rocked up to the concert venue in Queens Park on May 2.
Denied entry due to his level of intoxication, the 23-year-old launched into a tirade of abuse at security and staff, prompting police to step in, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.
When he tried to push past and enter the venue, police wrestled him to the ground, and a struggle ensued during which Connor kicked a police officer in the knee.
Eventually, five officers were required to carry Connor to a waiting police vehicle where he continued to struggle, police prosecutor Chris Willson told the court.
Connor pleaded guilty to charges of assaulting and obstructing police in a public place while adversely affected by alcohol on licensed premises.
Senior Constable Willson said Connor had a number of similar offences in the past five years and had not taken advantage of the alternate sentences handed down by the courts.
Defence solicitor Michael Corbin said “clearly” alcohol was an issue with his client who was nonetheless a hard working carpenter.
His client and his partner were expecting their third child next month, Mr Corbin said.
Magistrate Howard Osborne sentenced Connor to four months in jail for assaulting police but ordered the whole term be suspended for 12 months and.
For the obstruct police charge, he was ordered to do 80 hours of unpaid community service.
