A Toowoomba truck driver has pleaded guilty to multiple charges of drug driving and stealing, including taking stealing two trailers and a horse float.

Wayne Ronald Wilson appeared in Toowoomba Magistrates Court via video link on Tuesday, facing more than 20 charges arising from driving and stealing offences dating between April and December last year.

The 45-year-old long-haulage truck driver was caught by police on three separate occasions driving on a disqualified licence and while methamphetamine was in his system, the court heard.

Representing him in court, Alysha Jacobsen said he had been unable to get transport to his doctor’s appointments and decided to drive anyway.

The court heard Wilson also pleaded guilty to attempting to steal a generator from Bunnings in December 2023, along with nine counts of stealing more than $2500 of groceries from Coles stores around Toowoomba.

He also pleaded guilty to stealing two trailers from Oakey and a horse float from Pittsworth.

Wilson was sentenced to a 15-month suspended sentence and required to pay a total of $2762.41 in restitution.

Later that day, in a separate matter, Dylon Jason Anthony Burns faced the same magistrate and pleaded guilty to 30 charges against him, including driving disqualified and stealing, the court heard.

The 30-year-old furniture removalist from Ipswich faced 17 charges from a 24-hour stint on February 3, 2024 where he drove on a disqualified license in a uninsured, unregistered car after stealing number plates from cars in a shopping centre, the court heard.

He committed similar offences on February 9, and February 12, and on one occasion stole an ebike from Bunnings, simply putting it in the back of his ute and driving off.

On February 24, his fourth time on similar string of offending ended when he was involved in a car crash and fled the scene, leaving the car behind.

He was sentenced to a total of 15-months in jail with parole eligibility from June 11, 2024.
