Ranniel Evangelista Peres punched holes in the wall after father told him and friends to stop smoking cannabis in their house

A Toowoomba man punched holes in the wall and doors of his room after his father told the 27-year-old to stop smoking cannabis in the house, a court has been told.

How do juries decide a verdict?

A Toowoomba man who threw a tantrum after being told by his father to stop smoking cannabis in the house has faced court.

Appearing from Toowoomba Watchhouse, Ranniel Evangelista Peres faced Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to wilful damage, possessing dangerous drugs and possessing drug utensils.

The court was told the 27-year-old had got into an argument with his father on the afternoon of July 31 after the man told his son and two friends he had with him to stop smoking cannabis in the house.

Police prosecutor Cameron Francis said Evangelista Peres then began to punch holes in the wall of the house he and his father rented, as well as cupboard doors, causing considerable damage.

Mr Francis said after the victim went to Toowoomba Police Station about 6.20pm officers attended the address and found damage to house but no sign of Evangelista Peres.

Officers from the dog squad were called, who found Evangelista Peres hiding in a nearby retirement village complex.

Evangelista Peres’ solicitor Claire Graham said her client had moved to Australia from Brazil about eight years ago, and while he had previously worked at Oakey Meatworks and at a poultry farm was currently unemployed.

Describing Evangelista Peres has having “lost the plot” that night, magistrate Louise Shephard sentenced him to 12 months probation, with a conviction recorded.
