Police have recovered a yellow Holden Commodore after tracking it from the Wilsonton McDonald’s restaurant to the scrub north of Oakey.

The car had been taken from a Dalby home on August 17 and had been significantly damaged in that time.

This included the thieves removing the car’s muffler.

Police received information the car was at the McDonald’s about 10.30am and they made use of a Polair crew to follow the vehicle as it headed into the bush where it was located on Bacons Road about 3.30pm.

Toowoomba Detective Acting-Senior Sergeant said occupants had fled after dumping the car.

“If we can get (Polair) then we get it,” he said.

“They were in a position to help us.”

The investigation is ongoing and anyone who saw a suspicious yellow Holden Commodore in or around Oakey on Tuesday should contact police immediately.
