Police investigating armed robbery at Newtown Hotel

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward after two men, armed with a knife, entered a pokie room, assaulted a staff member and fled with cash.

Police have appealed for witnesses to come forward after two men robbed the Newtown Hotel in the early hours of Monday morning.

Toowoomba Child Protection and Investigation Unit Detective Senior Sergeant Brent Parker said the two men, armed with a knife, entered the venue about 3.15am and threatened a staff member.

“That person has sustained a laceration to their hand,” he said.

The offenders demanded cash and fled with the pub’s till.

“They have come through the rear entrance from an eastern direction, through a vacant block and the Newtown Shopping Centre,” Snr Sgt Parker said.

The men were wearing all black clothing, hoodies and had their faces covered.

They are described as being in their later teens or early 20s.

Police have appealed for anyone who observed anything suspicious near the Newtown Shopping Centre, or the surrounded streets, to come forward.

Residents are also asked to check their home CCTV to help police track the offenders’ movements.
