A Toowoomba security guard working at Wyalla Plaza at the weekend was threated with a knife after he confronted a group of teenagers for stealing.

A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman said officers were called to the Newtown shopping center on Sunday afternoon, May 4.

She said initial investigations suggested that group of young people were inside a shop before one of them allegedly stole an item.

When a security guard confronted the group near the shop, the spokeswoman said one of the youths pulled a knife out and threatened the worker.

It is not known what type of knife the teen was carrying, or what size it was.

The spokeswoman said the teenagers fled on foot and no one was injured during the incident.

“Investigations are continuing,” she said.

The teenagers are yet to be located, and police urge anyone in the area with CCTV to check their footage and report anything of interest to police.

The incident at the shopping center occurred between 1pm and 1.15pm.
