Darryl Humberdross was snuggled up in bed watching TV when he heard an almighty crash.

“Have you heard thunder? Well that’s what it sounded like,” he said.

It was the sound of a Toyota HiLux crashing through the Newtown man’s fence and taking out the wall of his carport.

Oddly the vehicle belonged to his neighbour and was allegedly stolen only a few seconds earlier.

Two Queensland Fire and Emergency Services crew were called to the scene to assist police in removing the vehicle.

They stabilised what remained of Humberdross’ carport and helped load the ute onto a tow truck.

The crash occurred about 1.30pm on Sunday in a cul-de-sac off Blue Gum Drive.

Luckily a police crew was patrolling nearby.

“They were here straight away,” Mr Humberdross said.

Police arrested one juvenile a short distance from the scene and are searching for their accomplice.

Anyone with information about the offence should phone Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers in 1800 000 333.
