A Rockville boy charged with carjacking an 85-year-old woman at the Wilsonton Shopping Centre has been remanded in custody after a brief appearance before a magistrate.

Police allege that about 4.30pm on Monday two males approached the elderly woman as she was getting into her vehicle at the shopping centre car park on Bridge St, Wilsonton.

It is further alleged that the pair pulled her from her white Honda HR-V and fled in the vehicle.

It was sighted several times en route to Cherbourg, where it was dumped about 2.30am on Tuesday.

The woman was taken to hospital with a minor head injury and a graze to her left arm.

Detectives from Toowoomba’s Criminal Investigation Branch located the 16-year-old Rockville boy in Toowoomba on Tuesday.

He was held in police custody overnight ahead of a brief appearance in the Toowoomba Childrens Court.

He has been charged with 10 offences including two counts each of entering dwelling and committing, and unlawful use of motor vehicle, three counts of entering premises and committing, and one count each of stealing, armed robbery, and entering premises with intent.

The boy was remanded in custody until his next court date on October 17.

Toowoomba Detective Senior Sergeant Paul McCusker said police were able to identify the alleged offender from CCTV captured during a fuel drive-off at Highfields, that involved the stolen car.

“We know who that other person is and we are making inquiries to locate them,” he said.

Anyone with vision of the area during this time, including dashcam footage, or anyone with information that could assist with investigations, is urged to phone Policelink on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
