Almost two years after being charged with murder, arson, animal cruelty and interfering with a corpse, an accused Toowoomba man’s legal representatives have finally received the full police brief of evidence.
Phillip Alastair Harris, 29, has been held in custody since his arrest shortly after a fire gutted a Rivett St house in Centenary Heights on the night of December 15, 2019.
Fire crews extinguishing the blaze found the charred and dismembered body of 63-year-old Peter Weaver, an associate of Harris.
Also found were the remains of a dog, believed to have also been dismembered.
Harris has not as yet been required to enter pleas to the charges which include murder, misconduct with a corpse by interfering, arson of a structure, entering a dwelling and committing an indictable offence, serious animal cruelty and serious assault of police arising from an alleged incident with officers when he was arrested.
Harris was not required to be in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Thursday for the mention of his matters.
His solicitor Phil Stainton, of Legal Aid Queensland’s Toowoomba officer, told the court the defence had now received the full police brief of evidence and asked that the case be adjourned to February next year.
Magistrate Howard Osborne therefore remanded Harris in custody and adjourned all matters for committal mention back in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on February 16.
