Peter Lesley Kelk and Toby Charles Gillis accused of possessing and supplying stolen weapons

The pair was charged after police alleged they had taken possession of a range of weapons allegedly stolen from properties near Goondiwindi.

Two Darling Downs men charged with unlawfully possessing and supplying weapons have had their respective matters mentioned in Toowoomba Magistrates Court.

Neither accused, Allora man Peter Lesley Kelk, 40, or Toby Charles Gillis, 27, of Oakey, were required to attend the court for the brief mention of their matters.

Mr Kelk has been remanded in custody while Mr Gillis remains on bail.

Police accuse the pair with others of taking possession of a large number of weapons allegedly stolen from properties in the Goondiwindi area in June 2023.

Mr Kelk is charged with more than 20 matters including arson of a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of weapons, unlawful possession of a shortened firearm in public, unlawful supply of weapons, burglary, and 10 counts of stealing.

Mr Gillis is charged with 15 offences made up mainly of weapons, burglary, trespass and drugs matters.

Neither man has been required as yet to enter any pleas to their respective charges.

McConnell and Saldumbide Lawyers director Chelsea Saldumbide, for Mr Gillis, told the court the defence was still waiting for one piece of evidence from police but her client’s matters were expected to go by way of registry committal up to the higher court soon.

Bouchier Khan Lawyers senior associate Alysha Jacobsen, for Mr Kelk, said she too was waiting on further material from police and also sought an adjournment.

Magistrate Clare Kelly adjourned Mr Kelk’s matters for mention back in the same court on March 7 and Mr Gillis’s matters for mention in the same court on March 21.
