Ms Riding, who was the passenger in the vehicle, was killed instantly.

Ms McCoy said the tragedy was magnified by the fact she was temporarily homeless at the time the car was stolen, with all her belongings inside.

“I was couch-surfing, so every single item was in the car — I had to leave where I was staying on Friday (July 7),” she said.

Ms McCoy said she left her car parked on Gleeson Court in Harlaxton on the night of Tuesday July 11 after running out of fuel, where it was stolen some hours later.

The 20-year-old, who said she was very ill the week of the incident, didn’t find out it was stolen until late on the following day.

“I didn’t know it was gone until around 7pm on Wednesday night — I went to get my car and there was no car so I reported it to police,” Ms McCoy said.

After briefly sighting it around Toowoomba, Ms McCoy found some of her belongings dumped on the side of the road that had been in the car.

It wasn’t until Friday morning when she was told a woman had been killed in her car, leading to a series of a conflicting emotions.

“I cried, because that car was literally all I had,” she said.

“It’s horrible, that did not need to happen (and Heidi) didn’t deserve that — it makes it even worse.

“It’s absolutely horrible, there are no words to describe how it’s affected my life.

“But everyone is suffering — I feel for her family, she was somebody’s daughter.”
