Nash William Kennedy charged with possessing dangerous drugs after attending 2022 Weetwood

A 20-year-old plumbing apprentice learnt the hard way that even experimenting with drugs just once can have horrible consequences. See what the court had to say here.

Dabbling with dangerous drugs saw an apprentice plumber handed a court date after he was busted in possession of cocaine after a day at the races.

Nash William Kennedy appeared in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on October 25 where he pleaded guilty to one count of possessing dangerous drugs.

Police prosecutor Anita Page told the court police attended the Tatts Hotel on September 24 at around 7.50pm to a separate incident when they found the 20-year-old.

Kennedy was arrested, and after being taken to the watch house he was searched, where the court was told police found a small clip-seal bag containing 0.4g of a white powder appearing like cocaine.

Due to his intoxication level, police refused to interview Kennedy at the time, and instead visited his home the following day where he admitted the white powder was cocaine, and he had purchased it himself despite being aware it was an offence.

Kennedy’s solicitor Chelsea Saldumbide of McConnell and Saldumbide Criminal and Traffic Lawyers told the court her client, a third-year plumbing apprentice, attended Weetwood that day and decided to experiment with cocaine.

Magistrate Louise Shephard told Kennedy she took into account his early plea of guilty as a sign of his remorse.

Kennedy was ordered drug diversion with a requirement to attend a drug assessment and education session, and placed on a good behaviour bond for six months.

No conviction was recorded.
