A Toowoomba man was given a suspended prison term with support measures in place, in a bid to help curb his drug problem, violent behaviour, and unsettling public outbursts.

Brandon Mollet appeared at the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday, June 17, via video link, where he pleaded guilty to all fresh charges after spending two nights in the watch house.

When the young man committed the two rafts of offending at the weekend, he was in breach of fresh bail conditions imposed on June 11, and a suspended jail term for the wilful damage of police property.

The court heard after the 26-year-old failed to check in at a police station on Friday, he was picked up at 1am Sunday, June 16, in breach of his curfew.

When officers took up with Mollet, who was leaving a Toowoomba pub with a small amount of meth stash in his black bum bag, he told police he wasn’t at home because he lost time in a pokies room.

Despite being caught with “old meth”, the young man instructed the duty lawyer he wasn’t using the drug again, but at the time he was on Xanax and Lyrica.

Following his arrest, Mollet was taken to hospital by the Queensland Ambulance Service after he informed officers he’d ingested two sheets of Lyrica.

He became aggressive and kicked out at officers who prepared him for the hospital transfer, and Prosecutor Nicholas Pratt said the “quite egregious” behaviour continued at the hospital.

While officers attempted to help dress a naked Mollet, who was cuffed to a hospital bed, he exposed his genitalia to officers, and continued to thrust his crotch at the officers despite being asked to stop.

He also thrashed and kicked out at the officers, and the bed which broke a part of a metal rail.

The court heard Mollet also repeatedly exposed his genitalia while in the Emergency Department of the Toowoomba Base Hospital, where he also yelled, “f*ck off, I’ll shoot you,” and demanded medication.

Mr Pratt said the man’s offending put him at risk of serving time given his criminal history and clear disregard for police, court orders, and the property of others.

On Monday, June 17, Mollet pleaded guilty to seriously assaulting an officer trying to perform their duty, wilful damage of a hospital bed, possessing meth, obstructing police officers four times, committing public nuisance, and breaching his bail conditions twice.

Mollet was sentenced to a nine-month jail term, and his suspended sentence was extended by one month before being released from custody on a new parole order with support measures.
