Toowoomba Magistrates Court welcomed a “media scrum” once again for the brief mention of a high profile man accused of two counts of rape.

Despite the mention only taking three minutes, multiple news teams travelled from Brisbane to join Toowoomba based journalists in the court to hear the matter adjourned yet again.

Prosecutor Sally Dreghorn for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions told the court one of two pieces of material sought at the last mention had been disclosed to the defence but the prosecution was still considering a request for telecommunications evidence.

Solicitor Rowan King, for the accused man, appeared by phone to tell the court he had provided a request to the prosecution this week for telecommunications material but the Crown had asked him to narrow that request for consideration.

The accused man who cannot be named for legal reasons, has not appeared in court for any of the multiple mentions of his case, which was first before the court in January 2023 after a notice to appear was issued in December 2022.

He has not as yet been required to enter any pleas to two charges of rape arising from alleged incidents with a woman in Toowoomba in October 2021.

No particulars of the allegations have as yet been aired in open court.

Magistrate Clare Kelly said she would adjourn the matters for a couple of weeks in the hope the issues between the parties could be resolved

Ms Kelly remanded the accused man on bail and adjourned the case for mention back in the same court on August 9.
