A 33-year-old man has been charged with common assault after he allegedly threatened a Toowoomba Regional Council parking inspector with a knife.

Police will allege the parking inspector issued the man with a traffic infringement notice for an offence in Herries Street about 12.30pm on Monday.

The man has then taken exception to being issued with the fine and has allegedly approached the parking inspector while in possession of a box-knife type of bladed weapon.

There was a brief altercation that ended with the man stuffing the fine down the parking inspector’s shirt.

Police were called to the incident where they arrested and searched the man, allegedly locating the box-knife.

Police also accessed the parking inspector’s body-worn camera footage which captured evidence of the alleged assault.

He was conveyed to the Toowoomba Watchhouse and charged with common assault.

The man was given bail to appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court on December 6.

Toowoomba Regional Council CEO Briand Pigeon declined to comment about this specific matter as it was before the courts but said health and safety was a top priority

“Any incident where our people are subjected to assault or intimidation will not be tolerated and will be referred to Queensland Police Service,” he said.
