RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter has airlifted a man to hospital after a large tree fell and crushed his car while he was driving on a road in the Bunya Mountains on Sunday.

The rescue helicopter flew to the South Burnett region just before 11.30am Sunday responding to reports a driver was pinned inside his car with the tree still on top of it.

The rescue chopper was able to land a few hundred metres away from the scene on Bunya Mountains Road and the aeromedical crew was driven to the scene.

The male driver was released from the vehicle after almost two hours of the crews working at the scene.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Critical Care Doctor and Queensland Ambulance Service (QAS) Flight Paramedic worked alongside local QAS paramedics in treating the injured man for multiple injuries.

He was driven a short distance to the rescue chopper by QAS and then airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a serious condition.

The man’s wife, who was a passenger in the car, suffered only minor injuries and also was airlifted to the RBWH in a stable condition.
