A Toowoomba magistrate was provided with an update on the police case against alleged shooter Karleeah Marie Jensen, who remains in police custody after a girl was seriously injured by an alleged shotgun blast to the arm.

Police allege Ms Jensen, 18, fired a sawn-off shotgun inside the room of a Toowoomba hotel on Annand St on Valentine’s Day, 2023.

During the alleged incident a 16-year-old girl almost lost her arm after being hit in the shoulder, while her mother who was with her at the time was superficially injured by shrapnel.

In Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday, April 12, Ms Jensen did not appear in person or via video link, and was represented by Bouchier Khan Lawyers.

Lawyer Alysha Jacobsen said her firm had received a brief of evidence from police a day prior, but they were waiting for a response from police about a submission they made in regards to an unrelated charge of receiving tainted property.

Police prosecutor Senior Constable Chris Willson said he did not know anything about the submission and that he would look into it.

Senior Constable Willson said the brief of evidence was missing four police statements, two doctor’s statements, and medical reports.

The case was adjourned to May 10 to give Ms Jensen’s legal team time to review the evidence.

The mother of one, who has been in custody since her arrest on the afternoon on February 14, has not as yet been required to enter any pleas to the charges which include dangerous conduct with a weapon, grievous bodily harm, unlawful possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of explosives, unlawfully wounding another person and the unrelated charge of receiving tainted property.
