A man who had been released from custody only hours before found himself in trouble once again after a big day out with mates.
Jarrod Gary Coley, 28, pleaded guilty to drink driving within the general limit, and driving an uninsured and unregistered vehicle, the Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard on Tuesday, October 18.
On August 14, police intercepted Coley’s vehicle in Kearney Springs for a random breath test, where it was discovered Coley has attended Brewoomba with friends earlier that day, and had been drinking heavy beer.
Police prosecutor Anita Page told the court Coley returned an alcohol reading of 0.072, and further investigation by police led to the discover the vehicle was not registered, or insured.
Coley’s solicitor Chelsea Saldumbide told the court her client had made a poor decision to get behind the wheel, and had “learnt from his lesson”, after it was revealed he had a previous substance abuse issue.
“While he is not proud (of his past), he has worked very hard the past three years to turn his life around,” Ms Saldumbide said.
Magistrate Kay Philipson said while she took his early plea of guilty into consideration, she sentenced Coley to a disqualified licence for six months and a $650 fine to be referred to SPER.
