An 18-year-old Toowoomba man charged with murder arising from the death of elderly man Robert Brown has had his case adjourned in the city’s Magistrates Court.
Isaac Zane Cubby was not required to be in court for the brief mention of his matters on Friday but was represented by his solicitor Jag MacDonald of MacDonald Law.
Mr MacDonald said barrister Steve Kissick had been briefed in the matters, however, he was still expecting a “significant” amount of further material from police.
Police prosecutor Rohan Brewster-Webb told the court that material was expected to be disclosed to the defence by the next mention of the case in court and asked for a month’s adjournment.
Mr Cubby is charged with the murder of 75-year-old Mr Brown who died as a result of injuries sustained when he was allegedly pushed head first onto the road while waiting for a taxi outside Grand Central Shopping Centre about 5.10pm, February 6.
Magistrate Louise Shephard remanded Mr Cubby in custody and adjourned his matters for mention back in the same court on June 30.
Police claim Mr Cubby exited a stolen Hyundai Tucson parked on nearby Dent St before running up behind Mr Brown, pushing him over and stealing his backpack.
Two 17-year-old boys, from Harlaxton and Dalby respectively, have also been charged with the murder and their matters are progressing through the Children’s Court jurisdiction.
Mr Cubby is also charged with a string of unrelated matters including two separate robberies, grievous bodily harm, and a series of burglaries.
None of the accused have as yet been required to enter pleas to their respective charges.
