What to do if you think a child is being abused

A 71-year-old Toowoomba man charged with series of alleged sexual abuse offences including “administering a drug for the purpose of a sexual act” has had his matters adjourned in the city’s Magistrates Court.

Graham Hamilton Bradford was not required to be in court when his case was mentioned on Thursday but was represented by solicitor Ryan McCullough of MacDonald Law.

Mr McCullough told the court his client had been refused Legal Aid funding but was now intending to retain MacDonald Law privately to represent him.

He asked for an adjournment so a barrister could be briefed.

No particulars of the charges have as yet been aired in court but it is believed the 27 charges relate to alleged incidents some years ago.

Those charges include:

• 11 charges of indecent treatment of a child under 16;

• seven charges of indecent treatment of a child under 16 (permit);

• three of administering a drug for the purpose of a sexual act;

• indecent treatment of a child under 16 (expose);

• indecent treatment of a child under 16 (photograph);

• indecent treatment of child under 16 (indecent film etc).

Magistrate Kay Philipson remanded Mr Bradford on bail and adjourned his matters for mention back in the same court on October 26.
