Friends and family are rallying around the parents of 17-year-old Braxton Holland after he died in a single vehicle crash.

New South Wales Police said officers patrolling in Boggabilla in the early hours of Sunday morning came across a Ford Falcon that had crashed into a power pole.

Braxton Holland was the driver and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger, an 18-year-old man, was taken to Goondiwindi Hospital in Queensland where he was treated for minor injuries.

Officers from New England Police District established a crime scene and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

It has been confirmed that the car was not stolen and that speed and inexperience may have been contributing factors.

It is understood the boys had only crossed into NSW a few moments before the crash.

Carolyn Reynolds is a friend of Braxton’s and established a GoFundMe campaign to cover funeral expenses.

She said Braxton was a kind-hearted boy and his loss will profoundly affect his parents, Ben Holland and Belinda Loyd, who are longstanding members of the Goondiwindi community.

“We as a community need to try and ease the pain they will endure over the next little while,” she said.

“The fundraiser is set up to ease the stress over the next coming weeks, to pay for Braxton’s funeral and to give him the beautiful send-off he deserves.

“This will also allow mum and dad to grieve without this stress.”

Ms Reynolds said the family has experienced significant loss in recent years, including the death of Braxton’s grandfather.

The family home was also destroyed by an unrelated fire.
