Family grateful for rescuers’ effort as man found dead

The family of a man who disappeared in Glen Lomond Park say they can start the grieving process after his body was located after a month-long search.

Dale Cook was reported missing from Middle Ridge in Toowoomba on Sunday, August 11, 2024 about 12.30pm.

The family of a man who was located deceased after he disappeared in a rugged Toowoomba park more than a month ago has expressed their gratitude for rescuers’ efforts during the long search.

Dale Cook was last seen on August 11 when he was observed walking into Glen Lomond Park about 12.30pm carrying only a bottle of water.

When he did not return to his Middle Ridge home, police launched a search and rescue effort.

Sadly it was hampered by poor weather and the park’s difficult terrain, which is marked by steep drops, thick foliage and several ravines.

Mr Cook’s body was found on Tuesday by a police officer.

In a statement to News Corp Australia, Mr Cook’s family thanked everyone who joined in the search.

“While we are broken hearted and shattered at the loss of Dale we will be forever grateful for the care of hundreds of people who have expressed their love for him,” the family said.

“Communities in South Yorkshire, England where he was born in 1963, and Toowoomba, South East Queensland, where he migrated in 2002 with wife Tracy and girls Melissa and LIsa, have rallied to show their support.

“We have been overwhelmed with their high regard and happy memories of Dale.

“We wish to express our deep appreciation for all those who searched for him.

“It has been a traumatic and mystifying time since Dale’s disappearance; but now we can come together to celebrate his life as a hard working family man who valued his friends and showed consideration and kindness to all that he met.

At times the search included dozens of SES volunteers, the QPS Dog Squad, Polair and general duties police officers.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
