A night out in Toowoomba turned ugly, painful and expensive for a 24-year-old Toowoomba man.

Trey James Fernando was so drunk that he couldn’t remember how he managed to smash the 2.57m x 1m front glass window of APM Employment in Margaret Street on the night of January 9.

However, he had cut his leg so seriously in the process that he had to be taken to hospital where the wound was stitched, Toowoomba Magistrates Court heard.

A considerable amount of his blood had been left at the scene, police prosecutor Julia Wheaton told the court.

The 24-year-old had no previous criminal history, Senior Constable Wheaton said.

Fernando pleaded guilty to one charge of wilful damage.

Upon seeing the quote of $3725 to fix the broken window, Magistrate Damian Carroll asked if a second quote was required.

However, Fernando’s solicitor Michael McElhinney told the court his client didn’t dispute the cost and would pay the restitution.

Mr McElhinney said his client had worked as a youth worker in Armidale for some years but had returned to Toowoomba about 12 months ago.

His client said he had been drunk on tequila on this particular night, he said.

Fernando had sustained a 15cm deep cut to his leg in the incident, Mr McElhinney said.

Noting Fernando’s otherwise clean record and his community work, Mr Carroll ordered the conviction not be recorded but fined him $400 and ordered he make full restitution of $3725.
