Duy The Do, Nam Van Nguyen and Thong Van Ha each charged with producing cannabis plants

Tons of illicit drugs were allegedly seized near Toowoomba with a trio having their cases heard before the city’s court.

Three men have appeared before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on charges arising from what police describe as a large cannabis plantation discovered growing to Toowoomba’s west.

Duy The Do, 38, Nam Van Nguyen and Thong Van Ha, both 42, have been held in custody since their arrest in October 2023 and were not required to be physically before the court when their respective cases were mentioned on Friday, January 19.

Each of the three are charged with two counts of possessing anything used in the commission of crime defined in Part 2, and one each of producing dangerous drugs a Schedule 2 drug in a quantity of or exceeding Schedule 3, and possessing dangerous drugs.

None of the accused men have as yet been required to enter any pleas to their respective charges.

The matters arise from a police raid of a Wattle Ridge property near Millmerran on October 30, 2023.

When asked about the quantity of drug alleged so as to ascertain which court the matters would ultimately go before, solicitor Jag MacDonald, of MacDonald Law, for Mr Ngyuen, simply told Magistrate Louise Shephard, “Tons”.

Solicitor Chelsea Saldumbide, of McConnell and Saldumbide Lawyers, told the court she would need an interpreter to take instructions from her client Mr Do and asked for an adjournment so that could be arranged.

Skuse Graham Lawyers solicitor Paige Hetherington, for Mr Ha, similarly asked for an adjournment.

Magistrate Shephard therefore remanded each of the three accused men in custody and adjourned their respective charges for committal mention back in the same court on February 16.
