Douglas Eric Collins pleads guilty in Toowoomba Magistrates Court to two counts of enter premises and commit indictable offence by break

A serial thief who was captured on CCTV breaking into The Glennie School has been jailed for stealing a computer tablet, speaker and $70 in cash.

A serial thief, already serving a jail term for multiple robberies, has been handed another prison sentence for two break and enters.

Douglas Eric Collins was caught on CCTV about 2.15pm on May 8 entering The Glennie School through the sport carpark entry before breaking into the school’s gym, Toowoomba Magistrates Court was told on Monday.

While inside, the 27-year-old stole a computer tablet, speakers and some $70 in cash before leaving a few hours later.

When police caught up to Collins on July 30 the court was told he said to the officer “you’ve got fingerprints, I’ll knock those glasses off your face”.

The court was told on June 30 Collins also stole a hammock from a Toowoomba home after entering the laundry and tampering with the property’s CCTV.

In court Collins pleaded guilty to of entering a premises and committing an indictable offence and entering a premises and committing an indictable offence by break.

The court was told Collins had plans to return to Cunnamulla to get away from “all the drama” of Toowoomba.

Collins, who was already serving two and a half years in jail for similar offending, was jailed for six months with a parole release date set for March 1, 2023.
